Oak is not just a material to us – it’s a craft. We work exclusively with Quercus robur, sourced directly from the ancient forests of England and France, ensuring every product we make is of exceptional quality, durability, and character.
From milling and air drying to kiln drying and joinery, all work is carried out at our Lincolnshire-based workshop. This means we maintain complete control over quality, sustainability, and craftsmanship at every stage of production.
Every oak structure we produce is tailored to suit your space, style, and requirements. Our skilled joiners combine traditional woodworking techniques with modern machinery to deliver truly one-of-a-kind pieces – all built to stand the test of time.
At BK Joinery, we believe great oak joinery starts long before the first cut is made. That’s why we take care of the entire process – from selecting and seasoning the oak, to precision joinery and final installation. The result? Beautiful, timeless oak features that add value, charm, and natural elegance to your home.

We are a family run workshop in Grantham, Lincolnshire, making bespoke oak joinery since 2013. Our range covers oak porches and canopies, oak pergolas, oak fire surrounds, structural oak beams, gallows brackets and wooden garden gates. Everything is made to order using traditional mortise and tenon joinery.
Our workshop is in Grantham, Lincolnshire, and we deliver nationwide. Larger items are supplied as pre-cut, pre-jointed kits ready to assemble on site. Fitting by our own team is available for customers within reach of Lincolnshire, and we will always confirm delivery costs and timescales before you order.
Yes. Almost everything we make can be built to measure. Send us your sizes, a photo of the space and a rough idea of the style, and we will quote for a piece made to fit. Most of our standard designs can also be adjusted, so you are not limited to off the shelf sizes.
Both. Our porches, pergolas and gates are supplied as pre-cut, pre-jointed kits that a confident DIYer can assemble, or we can fit them for you at extra cost. Fire surrounds are usually fitted by your fireplace installer. Whatever you choose, you get the same handmade item from our workshop.
We work mainly in solid oak, using English and French Quercus robur that we mill and dry ourselves. Oak is strong, rich in natural tannins that resist rot, and it weathers beautifully. Our garden gates are built from pressure treated timber, which stands up to the British weather from day one.
Oak is one of the most durable timbers you can build with. It is naturally resistant to rot, needs no treatment to last, and it weathers to a handsome silver grey over time. A well made oak frame will comfortably last decades and often outlives the people who built it, which makes it excellent value.
We publish our prices on every product page. As a guide, oak porch kits start from £670, oak pergolas from £1,850, oak fire surrounds from £315 and wooden garden gates from £160. Made to measure and larger pieces are quoted individually, and we are always happy to give a price before you commit.
Most porches, canopies and pergolas fall under permitted development and do not need planning permission, provided they stay within the usual size limits. Listed buildings and conservation areas are the exception. It is always worth checking with your local planning authority, and we are happy to advise on sizes that keep you within the rules.
Yes, we can fit porches, pergolas and gates for customers within reach of our Grantham workshop, generally within around 50 miles. Further afield we deliver a ready to assemble kit for you or your builder to install. Just give us your postcode and we will let you know whether fitting or delivery suits you best.
Because every piece is made to order, lead times vary with the season and how busy the workshop is. Once we have your details we will give you a realistic timescale along with your quote. If you have a deadline in mind, tell us and we will do our best to work to it.
Oak needs very little care. Left alone it weathers naturally to a silver grey, and its tannins protect it from rot without any treatment. If you prefer to keep the golden colour, a coat of oak oil once a year will hold it. Some fine surface cracks, known as shakes, are completely normal and do not affect the strength.
You can order standard items straight from the product pages, or contact us for anything bespoke. Send a photo of the space and rough measurements and we will come back with a price and the options that fit. Call 0147 660 7307 or email info@bk-joinery.co.uk and we will be glad to help.
